Frankie's Friends Charitable Pet Foundation – finding cures, saving pets

H/3 Foundation conceived and executed a model partnership with national veterinary clinic operator VCA/BluePearl to identify, vet and fund critical care and emergency veterinary services for pet owners unable to afford life-saving treatment.

H/3 partnered with Frankie's Friends, a national nonprofit affiliated with VCA/BluePearl dedicated to saving pets with life-threatening conditions, granting $700,000 to fund critical and life-saving care for companion animals in need.  The collaboration ensured that pets from families facing financial limitations received the same quality medical care as families with greater means.

H/3 created a program that provided two tracks for growing the network of eligible clinics around the country: (1) established sites with existing funding capabilities for disadvantaged pet owners, where H/3 made immediate grants; and (2) H/3-led “venture funding” for new locations, where H/3 provided initial grants and matching grants to leverage third-party donations raised locally.

As part of these efforts, H/3 established the Hope Funds, providing up to $10,000 in matching grants for over 30 animal hospitals across several states that met local fundraising goals.  This “challenge” structure was impactful for animals in need by encouraging regional hospitals to ramp up their own fundraising initiatives.

A Cat Named Bond

H/3 also established Bond's Fund, named after a sweet and gentle male tuxedo cat.  Bond was found in a dumpster at the age of 14 – but with specialized treatment, he lived out his remaining years in comfort, despite a serious eye condition and numerous health complications.

Created in partnership with Frankie's Friends, Bond's Fund provides companion animals and their families access to high-quality veterinary eye care.
